Part 1: Artist to Know!
Directions:
- Watch this video on the Principles of Design.
- Listen to how the elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, space, value) can be organized by the various principles of design (balance, emphasis, rhythm, contrast, pattern, unity) in a composition.
- Then, respond to the question on van Gogh's self portrait.
Respond to this question about van Gogh's self portrait, 1889, and put it in seesaw.
- What are three elements you can identify that van Gogh focused on and how does the principle of design "rhythm" organize these elements in the picture to make it successful?
Are you done? Save your response for Seesaw. Start Part 2.
Part 2: Project Making!
Directions: You will create a self portrait using at least three elements of art that you demonstrate the use of rhythm with in your creation.
RHYTHM ART DEFINITION: Rhythm is a principle of design that illustrates movement or action. Rhythm is usually achieved through the repetition of any one or all of the elements of art (lines, shapes, colors, and more). It creates a "visual tempo" in artwork, providing a path for the viewer’s eye to follow.
