Artist Statement Guide:
Example Artist Statement:
1. In this landscape painting there is a row of houses with a large swirling tree. The sun is red and the sky is yellow. In front of the bright, colorful houses are flowers growing in a grassy hill and a brick path leads up to a church.
2. This painting was made with tempera cakes. The element of art line can be seen in the variety of thick and thin lines used to make the houses and land. The tree's branches make curled line shapes and the rows of flowers are accented with thick diagonal lines, allowing your eyes to be led up to the homes. I used a wash technique when painting the sky to keep it smooth.
3. I feel I was successful as the paint was neatly spread, the lines helped accent the homes, and the colors are bright and cheerful making the picture cheerful like I wanted. I struggled with the tiny areas like the windows as I did not want to make puddles. I had to adjust the number of buildings when I made the final copy. Overall, I feel this was one of my best paintings!
